Update May 1, 2023

Brad Hoffman, Karyn Ayla, Danny Rossomondo, Andrew Gardiner, Carolyn Coelho, Chris Stang, Kelly Phelps, Mackenzie Farran, and Clint Lehman from DeLeon & Stang, presented a check for $2,139 Melissa Muntz, Executive Director of Student Homelessness Initiative Partnership of Frederick County (SHIP), on May 1, 2023. This donation was the result of proceeds raised by DeLeon & Stang’s boat “Reel Fun” at the 2022 Sailing Through the Winter Solstice on Carroll Creek.

“We’re grateful to all those who donated to support this incredible charity, SHIP, which helps youth break the systematic barriers to housing insecurity and homelessness right here in Frederick,” said Brad Hoffman.

FREDERICK, MD, Nov 20, 2022—It's the most wonderful time of the year. To celebrate the season of giving, DeLeon & Stang proudly joins Color on the Creek's Sailing Through the Winter Solstice project, which celebrates Frederick's community spirit and generosity.

Each year, Sailing Through the Winter Solstice kicks off in November with a fleet of boats sponsored by local businesses. From a single ship in its first year, the project has grown to a stunning display of 26 sailing vessels and 4 land-locked boats for the 2022-23 season. This is the third year that DeLeon & Stang is sponsoring a boat.

Announcing Reel Fun

On Nov 20, DeLeon & Stang launched their boat, Reel Fun, into Carroll Creek, along with other businesses and organizations in the area. They will be brightly lit up during Winter Solstice night to bring holiday cheer to everyone in Frederick. The vessels will remain in the creek until Mar 4.

DeLeon & Stang Is Proud to Support SHIP

The flotilla includes gaff-rigged sketches, yawls, three-masted schooners, and even pirate ships. But it's not just a fun display—there's also a purpose.

Sailing Through the Winter Solstice also supports local 501(c)(3) organizations. Each boat sails for a different charity, and viewers can vote for their favorite by donating $1. These charities receive up to 80% of the funds raised, while the remaining 20% helps fund Color on the Creek's water garden in the spring.

DeLeon & Stang's Reel Fun is sailing in support of the Student Homelessness Initiative Partnership (SHIP) of Frederick County. Through education and assistance, SHIP helps local youth break the systemic barriers to housing insecurity and homelessness.
