DeLeon & Stang Plants Trees Alongside Tom’s Creek with Stream-Link Education

FREDERICK, MD, May 19, 2023—DeLeon & Stang team members Clint Lehman, Jackie Pearce, Jaime Senior, Karyn Ayala, and Michele Lehman joined other volunteers and the conservationists from Stream-Link Education in planting native trees and shrubs along Tom’s Creek in Emmitsburg, MD.

The team spent the day placing wooden support stakes and carefully placing seedlings into pre-dug holes. Later crews would hammer down the stakes and attach the trees so they would grow straight.

Stream-Link organizer John Smucker also educated the team on the importance of their work, explaining how trees and brush keep the creek from flooding and serve as natural filters for pollutants and surface runoff. This protects both the surrounding areas and makes the stream water cleaner, providing a healthy environment for fish and other aquatic life.

“John taught us a lot about native trees and plants and why we need them along the waterways,” Clint says. “We got a real sense of how we were helping the community now and in the future. Plus, we got a lot of exercise!”

This event marks a return for DeLeon & Stang to volunteer with Stream-Link, after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. DeLeon & Stang plans to continue working with the organization for years to come. The firm is proud to be part of our area’s conservation and improvement efforts for ecological and economic growth.
